2000年に厚生労働省が承認
レーシックの本場アメリカでは年間130万件を超える治療が行われています。日本では2000年1月に厚生労働省（旧厚生省）が認可して以来急増し、国内でも2008年だけで45万件超、累計でも55万人以上の方が手術を受けています。
角膜にレーザー照射をして視力を矯正
レーシックは眼の角膜にレーザーを照射して形状を変え、光の屈折力を矯正する治療法です。レーザーを照射する場所は角膜実質という再生しない組織なので矯正効果は半永久的に持続するといいます。
※まれに近視の戻りが発生することがあります。この場合再度追加矯正をすることで再び視力が回復できます。
レーシック治療とは
レーシックについて詳しく解説します。
手術時間は10分ほど
手術にかかる時間は両眼で10分ほどです。角膜の表面を削りフラップという薄いフタを作ります。フラップをめくりエキシマレーザーを照射します。痛みもほとんどなく入院も不要です。
失明の事例はありません
レーシック治療は眼の角膜の表面のみに施す手術です。視力に関わる視神経などには一切触れないため失明の可能性はほぼ0であるといえます。実際に安全性は高く、失明をしたという事例は一例もありません。
災害時に威力を発揮
災害等有事の際にはメガネやコンタクトレンズといった矯正器具を最適な状態に維持することができないケースもあります。夜就寝中に地震があり眼鏡がみつからない、コンタクトレンズの洗浄ができない、こんな状況が想定できます。東日本大震災のときには裸眼であることで本当に助かったという声があちこちで耳にしました。
リスクについて
非常に魅力的なレーシックですが、合併症といったリスクは考えられます。

レーシックによる合併症として次のようなものがございます。ただしこれらは一時的なもので時間と共に解消されていきます。
- 異物感・しみる感じ・痛み
- ぼやける・見えにくい
- 白目の出血（球結膜下出血）
- 夜間の見え方・にじみ（ハロ・グレア）
- 老視の自覚
- ドライアイ
近視の戻り
レーザー照射により角膜の形状を変えるため回復効果はずっと続きますが、それでも少なからず再度視力が低下するという方もいらっしゃいます。この場合保証期間内でしたら追加料金なしで再治療を受けることができます。
